Carnival Of Small Business Issues - Edition 25

Welcome to the October 23, 2007 edition #25 of the Carnival Of Small Business Issues.

Canarian - Edition #25 - CoSBI

My name is John and I am your host. As you can see I have branded this edition as “The Canarian Edition”, because that's from where it originates today — from the beautiful island with eternal spring: Tenerife/Spain. Although the European Union reaches that far to the Southwest politically, I consider myself breathing, living and working in Africa.

Some say that you can spot the African coast about 270 kilometers in Southeast direction from the peak of Mount Teide (some 3850 meters above sea level) on clear days. I did not check, if this is actually possible, but whenever I had climbed up there it was too humid for sure.

Anyway, Africa has become the third continent that I am living on. It definitely helps you to grow as person and in business, when you settle down on quite different places for a while, meet different people and cultures. It helps you to “clear” your mind and vision from all those distraction and obligations that you have been told they were important, but they are not.

Lets stop the small talk and get into todays collection of articles right away.

I want to thank all authors, for their valuable contributions. Please continue to contribute your articles (↑) to this carnival and consider hosting it on your blog (↑) in the future. Your support is being highly appreciated.

P.S.: One more note before I let you go.
  • Many small business owners fall into the trap of “being held hostage by their business” sooner or later (quote by Eben Pagan in one of his videos). That means their business is 100% dependent on them, consuming all their energy, and giving back too little in exchange.

  • A corporation fails every 3 minutes, 96% of all companies fail within the first 10 years (quote by Chet Holmes based on US data).

That's reality. Once you recognize a couple of basic business rules, you can avoid those failures. What's driving your business? I'd say: sales, sales, sales, … Right?

That brings me to a book, that I honestly recommend you should read. It is called
The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes (↑), Penguin Group, New York 2007. No matter, if you are a one person business, a manager, or the CEO of a very large corporation. Chet Holmes helped them all. He talks from experience. He knows how to get your employees to perform and your customers to buy.

It does not matter in which industry you are in. This book gives you insight on how to transform any business into a more successful growing business. Since I mean this recommendation very honestly, I don't bother with any sort of affiliate link. But nevertheless, fell free to throw some coins into my Tip Jar in the left sidebar. :-) A last quote from the book:

“Success is not based on knowing and doing 4000 things,
success comes from doing a few things 4000 times.”
-- Chet Holmes
